So, tomorrow I will be taking a vision field test because a plastic surgeon told me I was supposed to have done that before visiting him. Because the size of my excess (800) and the amount of damage matched the value of the car (800) I was advised it would be pointless to claim on the insurance and it was written off. The accident was my fault and I held my hands up and admitted it and the other party walked away with everything sorted. No suggestion of fraud and certainly nothing fraudulent on my part. Towards the end of 2008 my insurance company started falling off the radar, not returning my calls or my emails, letters etc. I repeatedly asked what I was supposed to do next (I’d never had an accident before and the whole process confused me because they kept giving me conflicting info) and where my car was. I was ignored (or given incorrect info). In the end I declared a SORN on the car and had so much going on in my personal life, I forgot about it, knowing the car was off the road. He was driving his motorbike at the speed limit on a 50mph road when a lady in a people carrier pulled out of a junction in front of him. I’m 17 years old and plan on getting my motorcycle license in about 2 weeks. By the end of summer I was hoping to give my mom money to make a large downpayment on a bike and finance it to make monthly payments on it. However I then read up on insurance and read that in the teens if you don’t pay cash for a bike the price of insurance is outrageous and near nothing when you pay cash because it’s only liability. As you know insurance for a 600cc sports bike for a 17yr old (male) is extremely high (I was quoted 9000+), however you may of heard of fronting, (putting someone with lots more experience and age as the main driver and putting me (17yr old) as a second driver) this apparently greatly reduces the insurance cost, however is a form of insurance fraud and is illegal. But I thought of a plan… You see I have my heart set on a honda cbr600rr, it is much cheaper than a 125cc bike that I would buy new only to buy another bike a few years later thus deeming the 125 useless, but what if I got the 600 and did make my dad (who is much older and more experienced) the main driver and me the 2nd, but to avoid it being fronting, he could use it when i’m not and I could force him to ride somewhere so ultimately he would have used it more so it wouldn’t be illegal right? By the way he mostly goes out at night so it would not interfere with my needs.

Insurance replacing drywall & kitchen cabinets after flood?
Last week we had a significant flood after the water line feeding our fridge burst while we were away for the weekend. We called out insurance company, who sent out a property restoration company.. The property restoration people said they would need to cut out significant part of our walls (drywall), rip out our carpet and likely replace our lower kitchen cabinets (particle board). They hauled away a lot of damaged stuff and set up huge fans for 4 days to dry out the walls and floor and ripped up the carpet. We were told it was contaminated as the water was exposed to the kitty litter in the basement. We are now being told that the walls (which were soaking wet) have been dried out and do not need to be replaced, same with the kitchen cabinets. There appears to be some swelling at the bottom of our kitchen cabinets, but we were told this was cosmetic and the kick plates would cover it. Our belongings were also returned to us 5 days later, some of it (hockey cards etc.) was still wet. The project manager is coming in a couple of days to have us choose replacement carpet and other flooring for the basement. Everything I’ve read online states that once drywall and particle board gets wet, the structural integrity is damaged. So I’m confused about the message we are getting from the restoration company and also confused about why our contaminated"" belongings have now been returned to us. My thoughts are that since all our parents and grandparents lived to age 88 or older that whole or perm life would be a better choice then term that ends at 75 or 80.
